PNG LNG Plant (Expansion)
Papua New Guinea
Port Moresby

Brief Location Profile:

The PNG LNG export terminal at Caution Bay near Port Moresby shipped its first LNG cargo on May 25, 2014. The original facility consists of 2 liquefaction trains, 2 LNG storage tanks (165,000 m³ each; 330,000 m³ total), and was designed for 6.9 MTPA, though it now produces about 8.3 MTPA following debottlenecking. The planned Papua LNG expansion will be built at the same terminal, adding 2 more trains, 2 additional 165,000 m³ tanks (660,000 m³ total storage), and increasing total export capacity to approximately 13.5–13.6 MTPA. The project is currently targeting final investment decision (FID) in late 2026, with first LNG expected around 2031, subject to FID and construction progress.
