Brief Location Profile:
The Woodfibre LNG Terminal is currently under construction near Squamish, British Columbia, Canada. The project officially began major construction in 2023 and is expected to reach substantial completion and begin operations in 2027. It will have a production capacity of approximately 2.1 MTPA and a storage capacity of 250,000 m³. The facility will use renewable hydroelectricity to power its liquefaction process, making it one of the lowest-emission LNG export terminals in the world. The project is being developed on a brownfield site previously occupied by a pulp mill and will include a floating storage and offloading (FSO) unit. Regarding potential setbacks, there have been delays in construction due to regulatory processes, Indigenous consultation, and financing agreements. However, as of 2022, the project received a Notice to Proceed for major construction, and it has long-term offtake agreements in place, including a contract with BP for 1.95 MTPA of LNG, which covers nearly all of its planned output
